How to prepare a sourcing brief

A clear first enquiry makes product comparison and quotation easier.

1. Describe the application

Explain who will use the product and where it will be installed or sold. Include your destination market and any environmental conditions that affect selection.

2. Define the product

Include dimensions, preferred material, finish and reference images or drawings. Separate essential requirements from optional preferences.

3. Add commercial details

State the estimated quantity and unit, target order date, delivery destination and requested packaging. Indicate whether the quantity is a trial order or a forecast.

4. List checks before ordering

Specify sample requirements, inspection criteria, required documentation and any destination-specific standards that need confirmation.
